Grove teams find the going tough in Futsal c/ships

Yarrowkabra, Central Georgetown `A’, Albouystown `A’ and Tiger Bay `A’ advanced when the Central Georgetown Police Youth Group coordinated Rainforest Water Knockout Futsal Championship continued yesterday.

Tournament coordinator Colin Haynes said that the turnout from the various villages has been very good so far and that many of the participants have displayed very good talent at this level.

Played at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue, Yarrowkabra downed East Bank of Demerara unit Grove 4-2 in their u-17 showdown while Albouystown `A’ swamped Mocha `A’ 6-0.

Tiger Bay `A’ defeated Mocha `B’ 6-2 in the third boys’ U17 fixture. Also claiming a win in that division was Central Georgetown `A’ who squeaked past Agricola 1-0 on penalty kicks. Prior to the shoot-out, regulation time failed to separate the two sides, the match ending 0-0.

Further misery befell the East Bank of Demerara teams as Tiger Bay edged Grove 1-0. In the lone female encounter, Diamond edged Agricola 1-0 on penalty kicks after normal time ended 1-1.

In the Open category, Central Georgetown defeated Albouystown 6-2 and Tiger Bay brushed aside Diamond 9-2.

Action in the event will continue on Saturday and Sunday at the same venue with another round of matches from 9:00hrs.

The competing teams are participating in four divisions, the U17 male, U17 female, Trainers and Open Categories.

Winners of the respective categories will pocket a trophy and $25,000 while the second placed team in each division will receive $15,000 and the corresponding accolade and the third placed teams $10,000 and a trophy.
