Alpha, Riddm Squad play to draw

Alpha ‘the Hammer’ United was held to a scoreless draw by Mocha based unit Riddim Squad when their pre-season friendlies continued on Friday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground in Bourda.

Wayne Dover, head coach of the Alpha United setup said “We did it in two phases, some of the younger players and the others who came for tryouts, we played them first to what was their level of understanding of the game, the tactical understanding generally and their technical ability”.

According to Dover “We made an assessment based on the fact of preparation thus far and we have done a couple of tactical sessions, more on the defensive organization. We went into the game trying to see how they act defensively”.

“He further said “Although in both games we have not conceded any goals, we are not fully satisfied with the level of discipline defensively” he added.

In the contest devoid of many opportunities, Alpha United should have taken the lead in the 47th minute as Delon Lanferman upon racing onto a through pass within the right of the box, was denied by the onrushing custodian.

The other close call for the East Bank of Demerara unit came in the 82nd minute as a curling Daniel Wilson freekick 24 yards in the centre of the field, was tipped over the crossbar acrobatically by the keeper.

The Georgetown unit officially commenced their pre-season round of matches on Wednesday in preparation for the start of League Finale aspect in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Beer Elite League.

In their opening pre-season fixture, Alpha United downed Santos FC by a 2-0 margin. Anthony Abrams and Lanferman were on target with second half goals.

Alpha United finished second in the League Genesis section after losing to fierce rival Slingerz FC by a 3-2 margin in the final at the Leonora Sports Facility.
