The WICB should start preparations for the World T20 Championship now

Dear Editor,

The first four games in the World T20 Championship to be played by the West Indies are scheduled for March 16, 21, 25 and 27 respectively. It is a safe bet that all serious cricket countries have already started preparing for the event. Notably, although the West Indies played a fair number (although much less than Australia and England) of Test matches in 2015, they have played very few twenty over matches. India and Australia start a series of these matches this week. Australia have already started making plans to have Shaun Tait brought into their squad for the cup.

West Indies are ranked number one for the tournament scheduled to take place in India, that is likely to draw more live spectators than any other cricket tournament. There are lots of issues to be resolved in West Indies cricket. The board owes a duty to Caribbean cricket fans to start serious and intense preparations now for this important event. Those preparations should not be conducted as if they were for a military campaign, and therefore requiring secrecy.

Yours faithfully,
Romain Pitt
