Tiger! Tiger! Tiger!
Maybe he wasn’t. But a pit-bull he was. And yet I never saw the man in action. Never!
The ICC called him a role model. I hear MLK “Oh Yeah!” I hear Joel Osteen and his silky folksiness, as well as the thunder of TD Jakes.
Oh Lord, he did not have the magic of Rohan or the majesty of Gary or the sweet elegance of Sir Frank. But he was all of them and then more. He was that great Guyanese story: gritty; glorious. I can hear MLK soaring; the glitter of Magic Johnson and the ferocity of Lawrence Taylor. But he surpassed them. Oh, yes he did!
Let his story be told.
