BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC- Vice captain of the West Indies Women cricket team, Skakera Selman, says she is gradually settling back into the side after missing the Pakistan’s tour of the Caribbean due to injury.

Shakera Selman’s training routines include death bowling, Yorkers, and pace variation.

“I think I will fit back in easily,” said the former Barbados captain.

“I am prepared to bowl with the new or the old ball whatever is required of me. I have been doing a lot of work with the old ball just in case cause I know we need fast bowlers to come back just at the end. “

Selman is part of the squad which includes a number of reserve players in a training camp that ends next Monday at the West Indies High Performance Centre in Barbados.

They are preparing for the West Indies Tour of South Africa to be followed by the ICC World Twenty20 Tournament in India.

“I was injured last tour so am still trying to catch-up with the others because they would have played in the international series against Pakistan,” said Selman.

“I am hoping to get back some work with the bowling and work my fitness.”

Selman, who missed a dominant West Indies victory over Pakistan 3-1 in the ODIs and 3-nil in the T20s, has been hard at working attempting to perfect her bowling.

Her training routines include death bowling, Yorkers, and pace variation.

“I have been trying to watch a lot of T20s and a lot of death bowling and trying to adopt to that. I have been trying to do a lot of Yorkers and varying the pace,” said Selman.

“I think that would be important especially going to India where the pitches would be slow and I have been doing some work on reverse swing, still trying to perfect it “.

In addition to the on-field training programme, the players will also undergo a number personal development sessions before the touring party departs for South Africa in two batches on February 9 and 10.
