Khalil successfully defends handicap squash title

Jason Ray-Khalil successfully defended his Open championship while Samuel Ince-Carvahal claimed the Category-A crown when the Guyana Squash Association (GSA) sanctioned Bounty Farm Ltd Handicap Squash Tournament concluded yesterday.

Hosted at the Georgetown Club Facility on Camp Street, Khalil (-25) overcame national champion Nyron Joseph (-20) 11-15, 15-11, 15-14 in a marathon encounter.

Meanwhile, Ince-Carvahal (-8) brushed aside Ethan Jones (-3) in straight sets 15-10, 15-12 to highlight his championship pedigree.

In the third place playoff for the Category-A section, Demetrius DeAbreu (0) defeated Gianni Carpenter (-6) 15 – 6, 12 – 15, 15 – 9. Similarly, Daniel Islam (+7) claimed the Open Plate title, defeating Alex Cheeks (+7) 15 – 11, 9-15, 15 – 2.

In the Category-A Plate final, Aliyah Persaud (+7) overcame Michael Alphonso (0) 15 – 11, 10 – 15, 15 – 10.

With regards to the results of Saturday evening, Joseph (-20) defeated Regan Pollard (-14) 15 – 13, 9 – 15, 15 – 10 while Khalil (-25) downed Jonathan Hohenkirk (+7) 15 – 10, 15 – 13 in the Open Category.

In the Category-A division, Ince-Carvahal (-8) downed Gianni Carpenter (-6) 15 – 2, 15 – 5 while Ethan Jonas (-3) dismissed Demetrius De Abreu (0) 15 – 10, 15 – 9.

In the Open Plate section, Cheeks (+7) defeated Stephan Jeffrey (+6) 15 – 12, 15 – 7 and Jonathan Antczak (+9)15 – 14, 15 – 7 while Islam (+7) dismissed David Fernandes (+10) 15 – 14, 15 – 12 and Antczak (+9) downed Stephen Xavier (-4) 14 – 15, 15 – 11, 15 – 14.
