Fifties for Edwards, Thomas but Red Force strike late

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Barbadian import Kirk Edwards stroked his second successive half-century while Shacaya Thomas gathered one of his own in his first appearance of the season but Jamaica Scorpions lost late wickets to surrender a position of strength on the opening day of their seventh round clash against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force yesterday.

Opting for first knock at Sabina Park, the hosts were 111 for one at one stage but lost wickets in the middle session and then at the end, to decline to 197 for six at the close.

This was despite a top score of 66 from Edwards and a 64 from Thomas. The pair posted 100 for the second wicket after Scorpions lost captain John Campbell cheaply for eight in the fourth over of the morning.

Edwards, who got 93 in the last round, faced 129 deliveries in 158 minutes with six fours and two sixes while Thomas struck a single four in an innings spanning 249 balls in just under 5-3/4 hours at the crease.

Antiguan Devon Thomas chipped in with 38 but Red Force made key strikes to rein in Scorpions’ progress.

Regional Super50 star off-spinner Ron-Russ Jagessar was the leading bowler with three for 53 while leg-spinner Imran Khan claimed two for 59.
