Trailing by 62 on first innings after Volcanoes carried their overnight 323 for six to 389 all out, Hurricanes slipped to 127 for six after tea before steadying themselves to end on 171 for eight at the Addelita Cancryn Junior High School Ground.

Captain Nkrumah Bonner top-scored with 46 while Jahmar Hamilton struck 40 and Montcin Hodge, 36.

Captain Liam Sebastien caused the unrest with four for 49 while fellow off-spinner Shane Shillingford picked up two for 51.

Hurricanes found themselves reeling at four runs for two wickets after Shillingford and seamer Kevin McClean knocked over the openers inside the first six overs of the innings.

Sherwin Peters was taken at mid-wicket by Kevin McClean for one off Shillingford while Trinidadian Daron Cruickshank top-edged a hook to be caught behind without scoring.

Bonner then added 60 for the fourth wicket with Hodge, striking four fours and a six off 61 deliveries before falling on the stroke of tea to leave Hurricanes on 64 for three. Orlando Peters was bowled two overs after the break for four by Sebastien, with four runs added to the total but Hodge and Hamilton propped up the innings in a 55-run, fifth wicket partnership.

While Hodge played the sheet anchor role consuming 150 balls and 169 minutes with three fours, Hamilton was far more cavalier, striking six fours off a mere 59 balls. Both fell in successive overs but a 37-run, seventh wicket stand between Rahkeem Cornwall (24) and Jacques Taylor (16 not out) allayed any remaining fears.

Earlier, Kavem Hodge struck 105 – his maiden first class century – while Man-of-the-Match Kyle Mayers hit 58 in his second first class game, to keep Volcanoes on top at the start of the final day.

The right-handed Hodge struck 12 fours off 197 deliveries in just under 4-3/4 hours while Mayers gathered nine fours and a six off 72 balls.

They extended their overnight seventh wicket stand to 99.
