DPP asks for further probe of alleged rape of Lethem teen by soldiers

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has asked police to conduct further investigations into a report by a 16-year-old Lethem resident, who has accused members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) of raping her.

According to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum, the DPP returned the case file to the police with the direction that more investigations be done.

The teen has said she was attacked during the wee hours of last Friday morning at Lethem, Region Nine, while making her way home after an outing. She alleged that she was raped by the servicemen, who were on duty at the time.

The ranks were reportedly arrested and later released on station bail.
