PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Under-19 World Cup star Jyd Goolie is now targeting a spot in the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force side.

The 18-year-old all-rounder was part of the Young Windies squad which clinched the ICC Under-19 World Cup title last month and is now hoping to convert that success into a successful run for the national side.

“Right now I am looking to apply what I have learnt at the World Cup in the Premiership Division and score a couple of hundreds and really impose myself on the domestic club tournaments,” Goolie said.

“If I do well at the club level I will get a spot on the Red Force team. Representing the Red Force is the next step for me in my cricketing career.”

The left-hander shone with a top score of 66 against Fiji during the World Cup but his unbeaten 26 against Pakistan Under-19s in the quarter-final proved equally valuable, as he batted under pressure to see the Windies home.

Goolie said the ICC event had been a learning curve, with the single most important lesson being the value of staying calm in tense situations.

“The World Cup showed me how much more work I need to put in to be successful at the international level. I have to work harder and push myself more with more emphasis being put on my physical fitness,” he pointed out.

“One of the biggest things I took away from the World Cup was maintaining my composure under pressure. All the matches we played were close and I learnt that if you can stay calm and focus in these periods you will emerge successful.”
