Dredge owner accidentally killed by guard

A dredge owner is dead after he was accidentally shot by his employee, an ex-policeman, who also shot himself, while examining a gun he found at King Buoy Hole, Mazaruni on Thursday.

Dead is Feroze Khan, 30, of Lot 57 Fourth Avenue, Bartica. Khan sustained a single gunshot wound to his abdomen and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Bartica Hospital, where he was rushed for treatment.

His employee, Shawn Sandy, who was employed as a security guard, is nursing a gunshot wound to his right hand. He is admitted at the same hospital under police guard.

According to a police press release, the shooting occurred around 2.45 pm when Sandy, 40 of Alexander Village, Georgetown, found a handgun and was showing it to Khan. However, a round was discharged, hitting Sandy to his right hand and Khan to his abdomen.

Stabroek News was told that after finding the gun, Sandy took it to the camp and it was while he was showing it to Khan that it accidentally went off.
