No.28 Village man remanded over wounding at Bartica

On Tuesday, Trevon Samuels, 53, a labourer  of No. 28 Village West Coast, Berbice appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed to  answer to the charge of wounding  Jaipaul Narine.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison.

The matter was adjourned to May 30, 2024.

The police said in a statement that inquiries disclosed that the accused and complainant are known to each other and occupy the same space at ‘Cool Breeze Stelling’ First Avenue, Bartica. 

It is alleged that  Narine accused Samuels  of stealing his artificial chain, which he denied. This accusation caused Samuels to become annoyed. He then armed himself with a steel pipe and dealt  Narine a lash to his face.

A report was made to the Police, and the complainant was escorted to Bartica Regional Hospital, where he was treated by a doctor on duty and referred to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for further treatment.

The suspect was later arrested, told of the allegation, and placed in custody. He was later charged.
