Fyrish Black Sharks through to final

Fyrish Black Sharks clinched their berth in the final in of the Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) sanctioned Anamayah Memorial Championship, crushing New Amsterdam Warriors 55-38 on Thursday.

Staged at the Fyrish Basketball Court, Linden Joseph top scored in the semi-final affair with a game-high 21 points while Joel Fraser and Rayel Franklin chipped in with 14 and eight points respectively.

For the losers, Shamar France top scored with 14 points while Royman Fodgenay and Kirk Fraser contributed 10 and six points respectively.

The contest started brightly for the hosts as they outscored the visitors 11-2. Black Sharks built on their advantage in the second stanza, netting 15 points to their opponent’s eight points to lead 26-10 at the half time interval.

The contest was basically sealed in the third quarter as they outscored Warriors 20-13 to strengthen their position 46-23. With the matchup already decided, the Warriors outscored the hosts 15-9.

Due to the win, Black Sharks will now oppose Ithaca Hardliners on April 2nd at a venue to be announced following the latter’s semi-final win over Rose Hall Town Jammers.

The eventual winner and runner-up of the tourney will walk-away with cash incentives and the corresponding trophies. On the individual side of the presentation, an award will also be given for the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
