Girl defeats dad in Mabaruma election

Louranza Daniels and her father Leonard Daniels did not only share a home but they were also contesting in the same constituency of Mabaruma Settlement–Barimanobo at the March 18 Local Government Elections.

The results of the elections have since declared Louranza to be the successful candidate winning a seat on the council by 72 votes. Louranza managed to secure 212 votes while her father secured 140.

In an interview a few days before the elections, APNU+AFC’s Louranza Daniels had expressed her commitment to improving the lives of the residents in her constituency of  Mabaruma Settlement-Barimanobo, by lobbying for the expansion of the supply of electricity to the remainder of the residents in her community.

She had explained that in Barimanobo, where she lives, only half of the community has been able to benefit from electricity.

Meanwhile, her father, Leonard Daniels, a candidate for the PPP/C told Stabroek News of his commitment to facilitate what he described as much needed rehabilitation works to the roads in the Mabaruma Settlement, since the majority are in a “terrible state.”

Attempts to contact the Danielses for a comment were futile.
