Brathwaite tipped for Windies T20 captaincy – report

All-rounder Carlos Brathwaite is expected to replace Darren Sammy as the West Indies T20 skipper ahead of the upcoming matches against India in Florida on August 27 and 28.

While no official statement regarding the Barbados all-rounder’s appointment as skipper has been released by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), an article in yesterday’s Trinidad Guardian newspaper reported that Brathwaite, who smacked four sixes in the final over of the world T20 finals in India against England to lift the title earlier this year, has been identified to fill the captaincy spot.

The Guardian also reported that the West Indies team for the upcoming Florida matches may be without several of the match-winning players as the selectors aim to build a team for the future.

Sammy, who led the Caribbean side to two World T20 titles, took to social media on Friday following what he said was a “30 second” phone call during which he was informed him of his immediate sacking as West Indies Twenty20 captain. He was also dropped from the team. The WICB has made no official comment.
