Colts outclass UG Trojans

Colts schooled the University of Guyana (UG) Trojans by a 54-37 scoreline in their U-23 matchup when the Turbo Hard-Court Basketball Championship continued at the Plaisance Community Court on Wednesday.

Timothy Thompson led the winner as he recorded 13 points. He was assisted by Jafar Gibbons who scored nine points. For the other side, Kadeem Peterkin top-scored with 11 points.

The low scoring encounter started brightly for Colts as they took a 10-6 lead. The Trojans battled back in the second period, netting 13 points to their foe’s nine points to level proceedings at 19-19 heading into the halftime interval.

However, the momentum changed upon resumption of the match as Colts seized control of the fixture, scoring 19 points while restricting the Trojans to a paltry eight points to lead 38-27 heading into the final period.

Colts then clinically closed out the showdown as they out-hustled the Trojans 16-10.

Meantime, Eagles overcame home side Plaisance Guardians 60-56 in double overtime.

Lyndon Wilson led the Georgetown unit with a game high 21 points whilst Kevin Higgins chipped in with 11 points. For the loser, Andrew Johnson led the way with 21 points and five rebounds while Terrence Daniels supported with 10 points.

Action in the event is slated to continue at the same venue with another doubleheader. The overall divisional winners of the event will be the teams that win two out of the three stages.

Winner of the opening stage held at the Burnham Court were Ravens and Pacesetters in the Open and U-23 sections respectively. The third stage will be staged at the National Gymnasium.
