Uitvlugt Warriors climbed atop the standings in the Stag Beer sponsored West Demerara Football Association Senior League, overcoming Vege Boyz by a 3-1 score line yesterday at the Den Amstel Community ground.
It was the sixth win for the unbeaten Uitvlugt side who secured the result with goals on either side of the halftime interval. For Vege Boyz, it was the eighth loss.
Daniel Floy fired Uitvlugt into the lead as he slotted past the custodian with 24 minutes on the clock in front of a sizeable crowd.
Despite being outclassed especially in the quality of the playing personnel, Vege Boyz leveled proceedings Teion Jones scored in the 26thminute, stunning the talented Uitvlugt outfit.
However the superiority of Uitvlugt was felt three minutes onward as Jermaine Accra made his presence with a conversion to give his side a 2-1 lead heading into the halftime interval.
The hard-fought contest was eventually sealed in the 52nd minute as Kevin Duke netted. With the result, Uitvlugt climb onto 19 points and leapfrog fellow unbeaten team Den Amstel due to their superior goal difference.
Meanwhile, Young Achievers battled back from a 0-2 score line to draw 2-2 with Eagles FC in the feature contest compliments of a second half brace from Lloyd Prince.
Falling behind to goals from Seon Miller and Alkeba Black in the 23rd and 55th minute, Young Achievers reduced the deficit in the 79th minute as Prince netted from the penalty mark.
The foul which led to the spot-kick was influenced by the attacking pressure of the Pouderoyen based unit after Eagles was reduced to 10 men in the 56th minute following a Javel Stephen’s red card for his second rash challenge.
Prince capitalized once more on the numerical handicap to equalize in the 89th minute, racing onto a long ball from his custodian, before cutting into the box from the left flank and hammering past the right side of the goalkeeper.
Due to the outcome, Young Achievers maintained their fourth position and move onto 16 points while Eagles remain in sixth place and climb to 12 points.
