Fiery start expected as Guinness Sevens rugby c/ships gets underway today

If you are a fan of explosive rugby action then the place to be today is the National Park.

Reason: Guyana’s premier clubs will lock horns in the much talked about Guinness 7s Championship.

The inaugural year of the fixture gets off to a fiery start at 15:30hrs with the stars playing fast and exciting 7s rugby.

The top flight male clubs, Pepsi Hornets, Yamaha Caribs, Guyana Defense Force, the Guyana Police Force Falcons and the Demerara Panthers will go head-to-head to battle for the crown, cash prizes and bragging rights.

The police unit have brought in two Trinidad and Tobago players, brothers, Jeron and Leon Pantor to boost their arsenal.

Two female teams will also be in the mix as Banks DIH Limited has pledged to pump in excess of $300,000 into the event.

The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) President, Peter Green noted that the prize money is a welcomed and added bonus since it will help to offset some of the expenses of the competing outfits.

Green also called on the public to support the event with their presence.
