Alpha United, Slingerz FC, Pele and Georgetown Football Club (GFC) withdrew from the tournament, following disagreements with the GFF on the expansion of the event.

“The problem of the league is not a FIFA problem, this problem is governed by the GFF Statutes. We exchanged correspondence with the GFF about this. For us, this case is over because the solution to this problem is in the Statutes. What do the Statutes of the GFF say? They give the competence to the Executive (Committee),” the release quoted Mosengo-Omba as saying.

The world governing body has ruled that the GFF has the constitutional authority to amend tournaments that fall under its jurisdiction.

FIFA also declared that the expansion of the league will not affect the membership of the GFF congress, affirming the Congress is the only body authorised to make such an alteration.
