NA Warriors in come-from-behind win over Hopetown Steelers

A second half offensive explosion propelled New Amsterdam (NA) Warriors to a 55-45 win over Hopetown Steelers, when the Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) sanctioned Anamayah Championship continued Tuesday.

Played at the Vryman’s Erven Court and trailing 14-25 at half-time, the Warriors reduced the deficit to three points (36-39) in the third quarter, scoring 22 points while restricting Steelers to 13 points.

The come-from-behind win was completed in the fourth quarter when Warriors tallied 19 points to Steelers’ meagre six.

In a game of two halves, Steelers led 13-7 after the first quarter and they maintained their grip on the contest scoring 12 points to Warriors’ seven points in the second quarter.

Kwesi Michel recorded a game-high 18 points while Jevon Van der Stoop, Kelvin Thom and Shemar France chipped in with 11, 10 and nine points respectively. For Hopetown Steelers, Gerald Allen and Kelon Webster each scored 12 points while Elvis Thompson added 10 points and Ruel Edwards, eight.

In the first semi-final Sunday from 16.00hrs Fyrish Black Sharks will play NA Warriors at the Fyrish Court.

Rose Hall Town Jammers will play Hopetown Steelers at a venue and date to be announced in the second semi-final.
