Police confident of victory

Guyana Police Force (GPF) tactician Dwain Babb, said although a gruelling final in the Limacol Football Championship against Western Tigers is anticipated, he is confident the team can prevail tomorrow at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.

The ever improving lawmen sealed their berth to the finale, after defeating Winners Connection of Linden 2-1 in the semi-final round, earning a match with Western Tigers who edged Santos 3-2.

In an exclusive interview, Babb, who has been at the helm of GPF for approximately two years declared, “I expect a tough game because Western [Tigers] is a team that should have been an Elite League team based on the quality of players they have. However we are not looking to them, as the best team in the Georgetown League, we are carrying the pressure to them. They are individually more skillful, but I am bringing my boys to the level where they can compete and not just participate. I expect a tough game, but I expect to come out victorious.”

He further affirmed, “I am very confident, the way we play, the practice sessions, and the spirit around the team, there is a very good vibe at the moment. I am not putting down anything, and I am keeping all hopes high. Flu [Calvin Allen] has been doing a good job with his team [Western Tigers] but it will come down to the tactics, and the players who put out the works on the field that will get the victory.”

Asked if the weather has affected the team’s preparation, Babb said, “The weather has been a factor for both teams but we are not making that too much of a hindrance. Football is played in these conditions so we are making the best of what we have. We are not blaming the weather, we are preparing as much as we can, and so far, so good.”

He revealed the main focus will be on getting his players to be relaxed mentally ahead of the major contest so there are not overawed by the environment, noting, “I think some of the players are extra careful so they end up making mistakes because they are too tense. We have to relax and take control of the situation. We are working on that with them.

”He further added “Defensively we are solid but we always working on offensive areas, you don’t ever stop working there because goals win games. You can defend as much as want but if you don’t score you cannot win.”
