Saints FC and Snatchers FC secured wins in the women’s division when the Rupununi Football Association (RFA) men and women’s championships commenced Saturday at the St. Ignatius Sports Complex Ground, Region #9.
Saints dismantled Tabatinga 6-0 led by a helmet trick from Amanda Cabral in the 13th, 44th, 46th and 69th minute. She was assisted by Sulam Beiriva and Tiffany McDonald who scored in the 65th and 68th minute respectively.
In another encounter, Snatchers FC downed Gladiators 2-0. Alisha Captain and Helen Domingo were on target in the 42nd and 48th minute respectively. In the men’s division, Snatchers defeated Gladiators 3-1 while Tabatinga upset Saints 3-1.
Making brief remarks before the commencement of the tournament at the march past was RFA President Ken Grant. The event, which features 17 teams from Region #9 and one from Region #8, will continue at the same venue on Saturday from 16:00hrs.
