Advice on broadcasting regulations handed over to PM

The Chairman of the Guyana National Broadcasting Authority (GNBA) Leslie Sobers (right), today, handed over to Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo the advice for the new regulations to better enforce provisions of the broadcasting authority, a release from the PM’s office said.

Farmer, teacher remanded over ganja

On Wednesday April 19, 2017, the police say that fifty-seven year old farmer, Linden Gordon  of 5118 Central Amelia’s Ward, Mackenzie, Linden was arrested in Amelia’s Ward by ranks of the Guyana Police Force with ninety-three grams of cannabis.

Guyana Jaguars, who prior to their final round match against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes were  already assured of winning the 2016/7 Digicel, West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), Professional Cricket League (PCL), ended their season on a losing note after they handed the Islanders a 10-wicket win at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, yesterday.

Dear Editor, In the matter of the transfer of the nurse for what is perceived by the regional administrator to be a slight against  him, from accounts the administrator seemed more concerned the nurse’s missive in her complaint against a councillor of the region, was not copied to him,  than in the complaint  itself  (‘Nurse who complained about APNU+AFC councillor transferred with immediate effect’ – SN April 20 2017).

As stated in yesterday’s editorial, the complaint by nurse, Ms Sherlyn Marks against the former Region Five councillor Ms Carol Joseph raises issues as it relates to protection of whistleblowers and whether the transfer of the nurse was a blatant attempt to punish her for being forthright.
