A number of city waterways to be desilted in the next four months

Dear Editor,

Please refer to a letter which appeared in Stabroek News on June 6 headlined ‘State of Campbellville drainage’ by E M Forde.

The Mayor and City Council wishes to thank E M Forde for paying such keen interest in the health and welfare of the city, particularly as it relates to drainage.

The council is aware of the negative state of that canal and the way it is affecting that and  neighbouring communities. However, we wish to note that the Engineer’s Department is in the process of putting in place arrangements to have this and a number of other waterways desilted within the next four months.

We have to say that works on this and other waterways are contingent on the availability of resources under the 3Ms ‒ Money, Management and Machinery. As a result, we are again appealing to all property owners to ensure that they settle their accounts with the Mayor and City Council and assist the municipality in its effort to improve conditions in Georgetown.

Yours faithfully,

Royston King

Town Clerk
