Linden Technical Institute (LTI) won the boys U19 and Kwakwani High the boys U16 championships while Marian Academy clinched the boys U14 and girls divisions when the National School Basketball Festival (NSBF) concluded Sunday.
Played at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue, LTI downed Marian Academy 52-48.
Eventual Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Best Scorer recipient Daniel Lee netted 23 points while Best Defender winner Akini Wilson added seven points and 12 rebounds.
For Marian Academy, Timothy Thompson bagged a double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds while Jahleel Young added 12 points.
In the U16 final, Kwakwani crushed Marian Academy 42-20.
Best Scorer winner Kadeen Dover netted 13 points in the rout while Best Defender Nicholas Lowden added 11 points, five steals and MVP of the section, Isaiah Hintzen, added 10 points, 11 rebounds and five steals.
For Marian Academy, Josiah Daniels scored eight points and as many rebounds.
Marian Academy was to taste success when they upset defending U14 champions Mackenzie High 34-30 in the final.
Divisional MVP and Best Scorer winner Jether Harris had 20 points, 13 rebounds and three steals in the win while Cy Walker netted 11 points and four rebounds and Damascus Adams added nine points for Mackenzie High.
In the girls’ final, Marian Academy edged President’s College 17-11. Jada Mohan, MVP and Best Scorer winner, tallied 14 points, five rebounds and three steals.
For President’s College, Roseshell Campbell registered six points and six rebounds. The tournament was sponsored by Edward B. Beharry and Companies Ltd, the National Sports Commission, John Fernandes Limited and Sterling Products Limited.
