Alonzo Ambrose braved the elements and emerged winner of yesterday’s 98-mile road race from Homestretch Avenue to Camp Soweyo and back.

In the fourth points race of the season which was organized by the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF), the Team Alanis standout led Team Evolution’s Chris Griffith and Junior Niles (Team Coco’s) onto the podium.

Ambrose, stopped the clock in the grueling event in four hours, 25 minutes and 52 seconds for the event which attracted 17 starters.

The tireless wheelsman earned a maximum 15 points for his efforts. Griffith, his breakaway mate earned 12 points while Niles racked up 10.

Jamal John (eight points) of Team Coco’s and Griffith’s club mate, Paul DeNobrega (six points) placed fourth and fifth respectively in the road race which was competed in rainy weather.

Meanwhile, Adelie Hodge was the first junior cyclist across the line, leading Marcus Keiler and Nigel Duguid. Leer Niles and Everal Mundy were the top two veterans to finish.

Notes: In an effort to create a transparent system for eligibility for selection to overseas assignments, the GCF has embarked on organizing events where points are awarded to the top wheelsmen. Jamal John had dominated the first two races to rack up 30 points. He did not compete in the third event and was off the podium, yesterday but his lead is still intact.
