Guyana’s quartet of boxers finished with three gold medals and a silver medal at the Caribbean Development Boxing Tournament which concluded on Saturday night in St Lucia.

According to reports out of the Eastern Caribbean island, Keevin Allicock (bantamweight), light welterweight Colin Lewis and middleweight Desmond Amsterdam won their bouts in the finals of their respective weight classes when the curtain came down on the four-day fixture.

In the third annual edition of the tournament, Joel Williamson lost a close decision to 2014 Youth Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Michael Alexander in their lightweight contest.

The Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) and the resilient foursome are in for high praises after having several battles before entering the ring prior to departure.

The Association had to drastically downsize its original 13-man team after wobbling on the ropes by the punches thrown by inadequate funding.

The eventual funding which was acquired collectively from the Guyana Olympic Association, the Nationals Sports Commission and the Ministry of Social Cohesion, was only good enough to field the four-member team. A team that arrived on the island the same day of the competition.

Nevertheless, despite the constraints, the four pugilists, three of whom competed on opening night, boxed their way to the finals to secure hardware for the country.

Prior to the finals, all four boxers had boxed their way to victories inside the three-round distance. The coach, Terrence Poole and the boxers who were dubbed ‘The Demolition Crew’ by the St Lucians are expected to return this evening.
