10-man Plaisance storms ahead in ‘Village Cup’ football

Plaisance, Tigerbay and Mocha sealed their respective berths to the next round, when the Banks Beer ‘Village Cup’ commenced on Tuesday, at the Victoria Community Centre ground.

Akeem Thomas opened the scoring in the fourth minute, thumping a right foot shot into the back of the net, after pouncing on a loose ball following a goal mouth scramble.

Sibling Vincent Thomas doubled the lead in the 19th minute, cutting in from the left flank, before rifling a powerful right foot effort into the right corner.

Despite their sizable lead, Plaisance was reduced to 10 men in the 21st minute, as DeAndre King was red carded for using abusive language at the official.

Nevertheless, Vincent Thomas completed the lopsided scoreline, as he sealed his double with 79th minute strike.

Similarly, Tigerbay dismissed Liliendaal 3-0. Manasseh Primo, Darien Dickson and Deon Alfred found the back of the net in the seventh, 18th and 29th minute each.

Meanwhile, Mocha edged East Ruimveldt by a 5-4 scoreline on penalty kicks, after regulation time ended 1-1.

Michael Charles handed Mocha the lead via a 17th-minute conversion, while Travis Blaze equalised for East Ruimveldt four minutes later.

The tournament resumes today at the same venue with another triple-header. At 18:00hrs, Pouderoyen will lock horns with Kitty.

In the second match, Alexander Village engages Stewartville from 20:00hrs. The final fixture will pit Stabroek against Beterverwagting (BV) from 22:00hrs.

The other playing dates for the tournament are December 23rd, 25th, 26th and 28th, with the grand final slated for December 30th.

The winner of the event will pocket $800,000 and the championship trophy. On the other hand, the loser will walk away with $400,000 and the respective trophy.

The third and fourth-placed finishers will pocket $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
