MYO in stunning one wicket win over Everest

Muslim Youth Organization (MYO), Sunday pulled off a stunning one-wicket win over Everest in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/New Building Society (NBS) second-division tournament.

Playing at home, MYO won the toss and sent in their opponents who responded with 119 from 20 of their allotted overs.

Everest were scoring at 11 runs per over but Ayube Kayume halted their march dismissing Saheed Mohammed for nine.

Dwayne Adams (36) and Dinesh Mangal (31) were the only batsman to reach double figures with Kayume bagging a five-wicket hall.

Disappointingly, four batsmen failed to score while Ronaldo Ali Mohammed (2), Jason Rampersaud (4) and Rojin Sookdeo (7) were the only contributors to the score.

Extras accounted for 30 runs.

Kayume, 5-38, was assisted by Parshram Parmanand and Shafeek Ishmael who took two wickets each.

In reply, MYO were setback by Javed Rashad who picked up two quick wickets, dismissing opener Anthony King lbw for just one and Chein bowled Gittens for four.

Adams returned to remove Ishmael (8) trapped leg before wicket and Abdool Kumar bowled for a fighting 25.

Vinesh Rampersaud continued to tick over MYO’s scoreboard but the hosts continued to lose wickets at regular intervals.

They lost Amil Alli (8), Kayume (4) and Ayube (5) all to Shaeed Mohammed.

However, Roopesh Motilall joined Vinesh Rampersaud and they added 35 valuable runs.

However MYO lost two more wickets quickly, Motilall for 16 and Altaf Samaroo for one.

The equation boiled down to one wicket or one run for either side to win the nail-biting contest.

Sookdeo introduced for the first time in the match was aghast to see Parmanand dispatching a delivery to cover to seal MYO’s victory.

Rampersaud, who anchored the innings, top scored with 30 a knock which included three sixes and one four.
