Kobras dismantle UG Trojans 88 – 56

Kobras dismantled Univer-sity of Guyana (UG) Trojans in the First Division, while Plaisance Guardians grounded Eagles in the Second Division, when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Federation (GABA) Knockout Championship, continued on Wednesday.

Kobras secured the result over Trojans 88-56 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue. Travis Burnett led the assault with a game high 18 points in the      lopsided win.

The trio of Trevor Smith, Garfield Grenville and Jermaine Slater, were the next best scorers with 14, 11 and 10 points, respectively. Chipping in with eight points each were Carlos Edwards and Drexel Aaron.

For the loser, Quincy Eastman top scored with 16 points, while Samuel Thompson and Ewart Smith supported with 14 and 12 points, correspondingly.

Locked 13-13 at the end of the first period, the rout commenced in the second stanza, as Kobras scored 25 points, while restricting Trojans to 15 points, to enter the halftime interval ahead at 38-28.

The East Bank of Demerara unit extended their advantage in the third quarter, out-scoring the Trojans 25-12, to head into the final period in firm control at 63-40.

The scoreline was then sealed as Kobras out-hustled their opponent 25-16 in the final quarter.

Meanwhile Plaisance Guardians clipped Eagles 69-60.

Leading 15-14 at the end of the first quarter, Guardians extended their marginal advantage in the second period, netting 21 points to their opponent’s 16 points to enter the halftime break at 36-30.

The East Coast of Demerara unit maintained their control in the pivotal third stanza, out-shooting Eagles 12-11 to enter the final period ahead at 48-41. The result was then clinched as Guardians outscored Eagles 21-16.

Terrence Daniels recorded 24 points in the victory, with the duo of Delroy Critchlow and Nigel Bowen contributing an invaluable 13 and 11 points, respectively.

On the other side, Shamar Huntley and Patrice Agrippa recorded 21 and 20 points, apiece.

The competition continues on Monday at the same venue. In the opening match, Eagles oppose Guardians in the Under-23 division from 18:30hrs, while Nets battle Eagles at 20:30hrs in the First     division.
