A recording-breaking triple century from Bhaskar Yadram along with a fine spell from left-arm spinner Ashmead Nedd, left the national under – 17 side in totters, batting a second time and trailing by 298 runs at stumps on day two of Guyana Cricket Board/ Hand-In-Hand Mutual Fire and Life insurance, three-day U19 Inter-County tournament at Everest, yesterday.
Demerara resuming on 445-8 with Yadram beginning the day on 260, eventually declared their innings closed on 489 – 8 after Yadram recorded his recorded breaking triple century, an unbeaten 301.
His remarkable knock included 28 – fours and 17 sixes as Niran Bissu ended as the most successful bowler with 4-69 from 20 overs.The previous highest score was recorded by current Guyana Jaguars captain Leon Johnson who scored 193 against Essequibo in 2004.
Meanwhile, the National under -17 side, facing a mountain ahead of them, crumbled to 180 all-out with Skipper Sachin Singh leading the way with an innings of 60. His knock spanned 64 deliveries and was decorated with eight fours and two sixes.
Only wicketkeeper-batsman Yeudistir Persaud joined his skipper in the fight, scoring 48 after easing six fours.
Left-arm spinner Ashmead Ned, another West Indies under – 19 player led the demolition for Demerara with figures of 5-38 from 14 overs.
Nedd after getting the initial breakthrough taunted the middle order and along with off-spinner Nkosi Beaton (3-20), routed their juniors.
The Under- 17’s after their meek first innings showing where they trailed by a massive 309 runs, were asked to follow on and ended the day on 11-1 after Singh (10) fell LBW to off-spinner Dwain Dick.
