Guyana’s male hockey team yesterday showed little mercy against Guatemala by hammering the Spanish speaking nation 8-0 to reach the semi-finals of the ongoing Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC) in Colombia.

The win was the most dominant offensive performance of the tournament up to this point; it came on the back of a Jerazeno Bell’s hat-trick which came in the 31st, 46th and 52nd minute respectively.

Bell’s effort, however, was complemented by Me’shach Sargeant who netted the opening goal for the Guyanese in the 15th minute while Randy Hope extended the lead to 2-0 after he scored in the 22nd to lay the foundation for Bell’s assault.

The other Guyanese to find their way past the upright were Aroydy Branford who scored in 44th  minute while skipper Robert France netted two late goals in the 59th and 60th to complete the dominant display.

Guyana will now face either Barbados or Cuba in the semis. The latter led 1 – 0 as of press time.
