Amsterdam, Murray lead Guyana’s charge on opening night

The Caribbean Boxing Championships got off to an explosive start last night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall with the host winning five of the six international bouts on the 10-fight card.

Middleweights, Desmond Amsterdam and Alex Murray led Guyana’s charge with scintillating victories.

Amsterdam stalked and pounded out a  win against a game Trinidadian, Aaron Prince while Murray pulled out an exciting points win versus Mackelson Mathurin of Guadeloupe. 

The other four fights were contested by boxers from Trinidad, Grenada and

Alex Murray (red) lands a left hand to the face of opponent, Mackelson Mathurin in their middleweight contest last night. Murray went on to edge Mathurin of Guadeloupe on points. 

Guadeloupe. Held annually, the four-night event which got off to a late start by almost two hours, is scheduled to recommence this evening from 18:00hrs.
