Tournament favourites Den Amstel booted from 9-aside football

On an evening highlighted by five penalty shoot-out victories, home side Den Amstel were booted from the Hamilton Green 9-Aside Inter-Ward Knockout Championship on Sunday.

 Re-emerging force Crane provided the biggest upset of the matchday at the Den Amstel Community ground, defeating the tournament favourite Den Amstel by a 1-0 scoreline on sudden death penalty kicks, after regulation time ended scoreless.

 Meanwhile, Charlestown sent a stern warning to the field, displaying their championship credentials with a commanding 8-0 victory over Wales, on a night highlighted by several penalty shoot-out victories.

 Also, Uitvlugt needled Timehri 1-0. On the other hand, Sophia defeated Sara Lodge 1-0 on sudden death penalty kicks, after normal time ended 1-1.

Similarly, Newtown Kitty and Mahaicony downed Soesdyke and Pouderoyen 1-0 on sudden death penalty kicks respectively, after regulation time ended 0-0.

 Likewise, Central Mackenzie defeated Goed Fortuin 1-0 on sudden death penalty kicks, after normal time ended nil. Mahaica Determinators has drawn a bye to the next round.

 The winner of the competition will pocket $400,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third and fourth place finisher will receive $200,000, $60,000 and $40,000 respectively.

 Also, the four resulting semi-finalists will pocket hampers from Ricks & Sari Industries.

 On the individual side, the Highest Goal Scorer will collect a Lazy Boy Chair compliments of A.H & L Kissoon and a Dinette Set compliments of China Trading.

 The Most Valuable Player [MVP] will walk away with a special prize from Techno Mills.
