United States Ambassador to Guyana, Sarah-Ann Lynch, on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Georgetown, Ubraj Narine.

The main purpose of the visit was to explore areas of collaboration between the US and the Georgetown City Council. The possible areas of collaboration discussed included the need for capacity building for employees of the City Engineer’s and City Treasurer Departments.

The Ambassador noted that this was just an initial visit and further stated that the needs of the Council would be examined to determine how they fit into the context of the overarching goal of the Ambassador’s programmes.

The Mayor of Georgetown highlighted the need to address the Solid Waste Management issue in the City, by way of capacity building and the provision of requisite resources.

During the discourse, the Ambassador lauded the initiative of the Council to return the grant to the embassy, which was provided for the restoration of the Stabroek Market clock.

Also discussed was the importance of renewing the sister city relationships between Georgetown and other cities in the United States of America including St Louis and Stone Crest Georgia.  In 2018, a sister City relationship was established with Stone Crest through Mayor Jason Lary and Georgetown. Through the sister City relationship, ranks of the Bicycle Patrol Unit of the City Constabulary Department benefitted from specialised training.
