Miner dies after being stabbed a dozen times by drinking buddy

A miner died after he was stabbed a dozen times in his back in the wee hours of Thursday morning at Takutu Landing, Mazaruni River, during an argument with his drinking buddy, who has since admitted to the crime.

Eric Nurse called “Black boy”, a resident of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara was stabbed about 12 times to his back. He died on the spot.

The incident unfolded around 1:30 am on Thursday in a shop at Takutu Landing, Puruni Road, Mazaruni River.

A police source confirmed that the suspect, a 37-year-old miner who goes by the alias ‘Bam Bam’, was arrested and has admitted to the crime.

He remains in custody and is assisting with the investigation.

Investigations, this newspaper was told, revealed that the suspect and Nurse were imbibing together at the shop, when a 23-year-old cook, who is employed with the owner, alleged that she retired to her sleeping quarters where she noticed the suspect had hidden himself.

Upon spotting him, she told the police that an argument ensued during which Nurse intervened.

Nurse reportedly held on to the suspect’s shirt and pulled him out of the sleeping quarters which resulted in an argument between them.

Several minutes after, the cook recalled hearing a commotion outside the shop.

Upon checking, she noticed Nurse’s lifeless body lying on the ground.

His body was taken to the Bartica Hospital mortuary where an autopsy will be done.
