Fuel dealer, wife found dead after suspected murder-suicide

A fuel dealer and his common-law wife were discovered dead with gunshot wounds to their heads yesterday after what the police suspect was a murder/suicide at Eteringbang Landing, in Region Seven.

The deceased have been identified as Munishwar Ramkellawan, 36, a businessman, of Eteringbang Landing, Cuyuni River, and Marianny Martinez, 26, who was a Venezuelan national.

The couple shared a common-law relationship and operated a fuel business in the community.

In a statement, the police said they died sometime between 3 am and 5.15 pm yesterday. Their investigations have so far revealed that on Thursday afternoon, Ramkellawan and Martinez were seen by persons in the community consuming alcohol. They continued to do so into the wee hours of Friday morning. An eyewitness told police of hearing an argument between the couple during the course of Friday morning. They later went into their home and the argument continued. Sometime after, the eyewitness said, two suspected gunshots were heard.

At around 5.15 yesterday afternoon, an employee visited the home and found their bodies on their bed.

Ramkellawan, police said, bore a gunshot injury to the right side of his head, while Martinez had a wound on the left side of her head.

A 9mm Taurus pistol and eight live rounds were found between the couple bodies. Two spent shells were also recovered from the scene by the investigators.

The bodies were removed from the scene and transported to George-town.
