Cycling action returns to the inner circuit of the National Park this Saturday with the return of the Malta Supreme 11-stage racing meet.

The event, which is sponsored by beverage giants Banks DIH, under their non-alcoholic brand, is organized by Cycling coach, Hassan Mohammed and will see a number of the country’s top wheelsmen competing for the title that is currently in the possession of veteran rider, Warren “40” McKay.

Mohammed is requesting that riders be punctual with the events pedaling off from 09.30 hours with the younger riders taking centre stage before culminating with the 35-lap feature event.

McKay stormed to the schoolboys and invitational feature 35-lap and veterans Under-50 events in  a time of one hour, 12 minutes and 13 seconds, a record for the previous eight editions of the event.

While McKay maintains his consistency in the cycling fraternity, it is unclear if he will participate in the event but the race is expected to see keen competition.

The Evolution duo of Paul Denobrega and Christopher Griffith is expected to bring their ‘A’ game but with Coco’s Jamaul John and Marcus Kilier in the pack it will be a renewal of the rivalry among the two clubs.

But with the likes of We Stand United’s Andre Greene, Andrew Hicks, Briton John and Deeraj Garbaran the numbers could work in their favour. Also in the mix will be Linden’s Michael Anthony and Trojan’s Curtis Dey all vying for the crown.

In the veterans’ category, Junior Niles remains one of the top contenders along with Ian Jackson, Jaikaran Sukhai, Paul Choo-Wee-Nam, Leer Nunes, Alex Mendes, Raymond Newton and Ralph Williams.

Other winners last year included Jaheim Henry (BMX 9-12 and 12-14), Ian Jackson (veteran O-50), David Hicks (12-14 Boys and Girl and Juveniles), Mario King (Mountain Bike) and Jessica Mohabir (BMX 6-9).

The event will see representatives from the sponsors present to witness the action and assist in the distribution of prizes.
