Unidentified man succumbs after La Penitence road accident

An unidentified man, who was struck down along La Penitence Public Road and was hospitalised for several days afterward, succumbed to his injuries yesterday.

The Guyana Police Force yesterday said the body of the man is currently at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) mortuary awaiting identification.

The accident occurred around 9.45 am on July 5th.

Police said their investigations revealed that the man, who was a pedestrian at the time, was standing on the western side of the road, waiting to cross. At the same time, a minibus, BSS 2498, driven by a-53 year-old of resident of Block X Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, was approaching.

While in the vicinity of Twins Pharmacy and Snackette, the pedestrian proceeded to cross the road and ended up into the path of the minibus and came into contact with left side wing mirror.

The driver of the minibus picked up the man, who was in an unconscious state, and rushed him to the GPH, where he was seen and examined by a doctor and admitted on that day to the Intensive Care Unit.

The driver has since been released on station bail.
