Cops in renewed appeal to ID Middle Road accident victim

The Guyana Police Force is appealing to members of the public to assist in identifying the victim of the fatal accident which occurred at Middle Road, La Penitence on July 5th.

Police, in a second appeal for assistance, yesterday said the body of the unidentified man remains at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Investigations have revealed that the man, who was a pedestrian at the time, was standing at the side of the road waiting to cross. At the same time, a minibus, BSS 2498, driven by a 53-year-old of resident of Block X Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, was approaching. While in the vicinity of Twins Pharmacy and Snackette, the pedestrian proceeded to cross the road and ended up into the path of the minibus. He was subsequently struck.

The driver of the minibus picked up the injured man, who was in an unconscious state, and rushed him to the GPH, where he was examined by a doctor and later admitted on that day to the Intensive Care Unit. He subsequently succumbed.

Police said the body remains unidentified in the hospital mortuary’s awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.

The driver has since been released on station bail.

The man, who is of African descent, was about 6 feet tall, with a thin build. At the time his body was found he was clad in a pair of blue jeans, a grey and black plaid shirt, and black and white shoes.
