A tropical storm in St. Vincent and the Grenadines has forced the abandonment of the first round of the Cricket West Indies “Rising Stars” Regional Under-19 tournament.

At Arnos Vale, the contest between Guyana and Windward Islands suffered a 90-minute delay. The clouds held up for a few minutes which allowed Guyana to win the toss and elect to bowl where three overs was sent down by Qumar Torrington and Leon Swamy to see Windwards off the field at 23-0 due to rain once again.

When they resumed Swamy managed to bowl leading run scorer in the previous edition of the competition, Kimani Melius for 25 from 34 balls. Melius stroked three boundaries before his departure.

Melius also lost his opening partner, Camario Cain for just five after holding out to Alex Algoo off of Torrington.

Teddy Bishop (4 not out) and Ackeem Auguste (2 not out) were at the crease when rain forced the match to be abandoned with Windwards 48-2.

Meanwhile, the Leeward Islands’ and Jamaica’s contest suffered the same faith without a ball being bowled and the Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago game was also called off.

Guyana will now face Barbados in the second round tomorrow at Arnos Vale while Trinidad will battle Jamaica at Park Hill and Leewards will go head to head with Windwards at Cumberland.
