With just six days to go, it is almost showtime for the Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation’s flagship event, the Senior National Championships.

Bodybuilders, bikini and physique athletes are on the stretch run, dialing in their bodies through strict diets and workout regimens to present an award winning package come August 12 at the National Cultural Centre.

The fitness community, local gyms, barbershops and even salons have been buzzing with anticipation of the much hyped Mr. Guyana event. Not only will the nation’s best physiques turn the stage into their battleground, but for just the fifth time, the flourishing Men’s Physique segment will be contested on the Senior stage.

Aesthetics, symmetry, muscularity, confidence and of course brightly coloured board shorts will be present.

Patrons at the venue can look forward to local hunks posing and flexing their V tapered physiques in a showdown of the ‘battle of the board shorts’.

The rules of the division state that the judges are looking for “fit contestants who display proper shape and symmetry combined with muscularity and overall condition.” Extreme muscularity is to be marked down.

The keys to victory are simple aesthetics: symmetry, presentation, conditioning without being too vascular, and shredded muscles. Whoever brings it best will win.

Last year’s winner, Emmerson Campbell along with Yannick Grimes, Caerus Cipriani and Tariq Dakhil (2018 Novices Champion) are some of the known competitors vying for the title of the Senior Men’s Physique champion and a place on the CAC team.

Look for the guys to be dialed in, with their V-tapers and their robust stage personality. Everybody wants to win, so you can be sure the whole field will ‘bring their best package’.

On the highly anticipated night, musclemen and women will compete for gift certificate, trophies and supplement hampers.

Organizing Secretary of the federation, Videsh Sookram opined that this year’s competition is shaping up to “one of the most competitive one in the last decade”.

Sookram stated that five-time Mr. Guyana, Kerwin Clarke is focused on another CAC gold medal in October in the Dominican Republic and as such, the field is wide open for a new Mr. Guyana to be crowned.

He also added that young Ms. Bikini star, Rosanna Fung will be looking to make a statement following her win at the Novices Championships in May.

To add some international flavour and excitement to the event, the federation has recruited Antigua’s Warren English to put on a classic guest pose.

The championship starts at 19:00hrs and admission is listed at $2000.

See you there.
