Track and Field team aims to end Pan Am medal drought

Guyana’s four-member Track and Field team will aim to end the nation’s medal drought so far at the ongoing Pan American Games in Lima, Peru when action in the discipline starts today at the Athletics Stadium, in the Villa Deportiva Nacional Videna.

Sprinters, Brenessa Thompson (100,200m) Jenea McCammon (100 metres hurdles), Aliyah Abrams (400m) and Emanuel Archibald (long jump) are the nation’s representatives in athletics.

Julian Edmonds has been tasked the duties of Coach of the outfit.

Thompson springs into action today in the 100m heats while Archibald, McCammon and Abrams will begin their medal hunt tomorrow in their respective events.

Athletics is part of the Pan American Games since its first edition in Buenos Aires 1951.  Guyana, which is being represented in eight disciplines during the 18th edition of the Games is still yet to achieve a medal in Peru. Stabroek Sport will keep readers updated as events unfold.

Athletes from Guyana have competed in 15 editions of the games, accruing eighteen medals: two Gold, four Silver and 12 Bronze.

However, Guyana has not medalled at the Games since 2011, when it was held in Guadalajara, Mexico.
