Cassie Small comes up big at Jefford Classic

Cassie Small was in a class of her own, completing a sprint treble while Davin Fraser was the fastest man on show when the Jefford Track and Field Classic  was staged Sunday at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.

Small won the blue riband 100m then returned to the track to win the 200m and 400m, running away with the most cash prizes at the annual meet which was birthed and remains in Linden.

She took the 100m spoils in 12.02s, the 200m (time not available) and the 400m in one minute, 03.7s. Javina Sampson  won the 800m in two minutes, 28 seconds to beat Kezra Murray (2:30.01) and Aliyah Moore (2:33.5) , placed second in the quarter mile event.

Sampson earned the silver medal in 1:04.0s while Moore was third in 1:07.0s.

Winston Dummett won the men’s 400m, running 52.1s with Samuel Lynch (52.9s) and Daniel Melville (53.1s) placing second and third respectively.

Fraser clocked 10.37s to win the marquee men’s 100m ahead of Noelex Holder (10.62s) and Owen Adonis (10.80s).

In the men’s 1500m, Anfernee Headecker put on a show when he ran four minutes, 23.6s to edge fellow Police athlete Winston Messenger (4:26.7s) and Royston Fordyce (4:27.4s).

In other events, Anthony Williams  disturbed the sand in 6.83m to win the male long jump ahead of Damon Williams (6.72m) and Tremaine Brown (6.63m).

Tasnica Lovell leapt 5.32m to take the female long jump spoils ahead of Shaundel Browne (4.88m) and Leoni Adams (4.69m).

Natasha Alder claimed the women’s shot put (12.55m) and discus (37.92m) events.

All the top finishers in each event received their cash incentives at the presentation ceremony along with their respective medals. In excess of $2M cash was rewarded on the race day, the organisers stated.
