Street Kings Street-ball c/ships launched

The inaugural ‘592 Street Kings’ Street-ball Championship was officially launched yesterday at the recently opened Jamrock Café (Jamaican Cuisine, Church Street).

The three day elimination tournament, which features 16 teams, will be played for over $675,000 in prizes. The playing dates are September 7th, 14th and 21st. 

The opening night will occur at the Berlin Tarmac, with the second evening at the Burnham Court tarmac on Middle and Carmichael Streets. The venue for the final will be announced shortly.

Among the major teams that will be on display are Gold is Money, Sparta Boss, Leopold Street, Tiger Bay, Alexander Village, Melanie-B, Broad Street, Back Circle, Albouystown-B, LA Ballers, Future Stars and Sophia.

Winner of the event will collect $300,000 and a trophy, while the runners-up will pocket $150,000. 

On the other hand, the third place finisher will grab $100,000 while fourth place side will receive $75,000. The winner of the ‘Plate’ section will collect $50,000.

Seweon Mc Garrell 592 Brand Manager said that aim of the event is provide a platform for the youths from the various communities to display their respective talents.

He further added, “Our brand was brought out with the intention of targeting our grassroots communities across Guyana, this tournament is just one of our ways of giving back to these communities and the youths, we want to give the young street ballers a chance to showcase their talent and to be crowned the 592 Street Kings of street ball in Georgetown.”

According to McGarrell, the expansion of the tournament into the outlying regions is another objective will be pursued to provide the platform for the players to showcase their talents.
