The local federation has shortlisted a formidable team for the CAC Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships scheduled for October following the National Senior Championships and the recent confirmation of dates and the host country for this year’s event.

Accoring to President of the Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Inc.(GBBFFI), Keavon Bess, “Guyana has a super team that can definitely return with hardware” at the annual fixture billed for October 11-14 in the Dominican Republic.

Bess named five-time Mr. Guyana and CAC gold and double bronze medalist, Kerwin Clarke, four-time Mr. Guyana (Men’s Physique), Emmerson Campbell who is a silver and bronze medalist at CAC, reigning Mr. Guyana, Marlon Bennett, reigning Ms. Bikini Champion, Rosanna Fung, 2017 Mr. Guyana (Men’s Physique), Yannick Grimes and Caerus Cipriani on the shortlist to represent the 592 at the 46th edition of the Region’s highest bodybuilding and fitness championships.

Bess released the following statement yesterday:

“Marlon Bennett as the reigning Mr. Guyana has successfully competed on the CAC stage and can repeat those feats at CAC 2019. Caerus Cipriani, though competed in the bodybuilding segment of the GBBFFI Seniors Championship, would do well in the tall class of the Men’s Physique at CAC 2019. He also is no stranger to the CAC stage, barely missing a medal last year and he knows what he has to bring.

Emmerson Campbell has made himself competitive at all the CAC Championships he has attended thus far. His silver medal in CAC 2016 and just missing the gold last year in Mexico by just one point, makes him a favourite to capture the gold this time around.

Yannick Grimes is seeking to take his talents to the CAC stage for the first time. He has done well at multiple Darcy Beckles Classics in Barbados and I am sure, at his first outing at a CAC Championship, he would be a force to be reckoned with and no doubt he is going to be competitive with a high chance of adding to our medal tally.

Kerwin Clarke had already dominated his category at CAC by capturing that elusive gold medal at CAC 2016 in the Dominican Republic.

Emmerson Campbell

With a break from the Senior’s stage in 2019, he is at his best and only gold can be expected from Clarke at CAC 2019. Rosanna Fung, if she competes at CAC can be the first local athlete from bodybuilding and fitness to win the novice and seniors title and compete at CAC in the same year.

She is one of the best bikini athletes we have had and I am certain that she can compete with the best athletes that will come from the 30 plus countries.

Conclusively, Guyana has a super team that can definitely return with hardware. And with our bid to host CAC 2021 it would be a beautiful ending of the year for us to grab medals at CAC and to secure the hosting of CAC 2021.”
