CANU appeals dismissal of ecstasy case

Almost a month after Darryl John was freed of a possession of ecstasy charge, the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) has filed an appeal of the decision.

It is alleged that John had in his possession two grammes of ecstasy pills.

The matter was dismissed on the grounds that there was insufficient evidence led by the prosecution to prove that the defendant had the drug or that it was indeed a narcotic.

During yesterday’s court hearing, CANU prosecutor Konyo Sandiford informed the court of the prosecution’s intention to serve a notice of appeal on the defendant.

She further noted that in relation to the second matter, where it is alleged that John between December 1st, 2017 and January 21st, 2018, trafficked ecstasy tablets to minors, a report will be presented as to whether or not CANU would continue with the matter.

The matter was later adjourned until September 19.

John is represented by attorney George Thomas.
