Trio remanded over attempted armed robbery at Republic Gardens

Magistrate Judy Latchman yesterday remanded three men to prison after they plead not guilty to a joint charge which stated that they attempted to rob a resident of Republic Gardens.

The men, Edward Gudge, Ronald Brown and Clarence Boston are accused of attempting to carry out an armed robbery on Brian Pereira on August 31.

The men who were not represented were arraigned in the Providence Magistrate’s Court yesterday. They were remanded until September 23.

Around 11 am last Saturday, the three men, who were armed with guns, pounced on Pereira while he was putting out his garbage.

Pereira was instructed not to move or he would be shot. He however managed to escape from the men and ran into his house. The men followed behind and during their attempts to gain entry into the house, Pereira managed to contact the police.

Upon the arrival of the police, the men hid among some bushes in an empty lot nearby and opened fire on the police.

As a result, police returned fire and one of the men was shot. He was taken to hospital where he received medical attention.
