Guyana Amazon Warriors registered their third straight victory at the Providence National Stadium last night with a 47–run decimation of Barbados Tridents in the HERO Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Motivated by the 15,000 in attendance, Warriors, asked to bat first clobbered 91 runs off the last six overs to reach 180-4. Tridents were blown away for 133 in 16.4 overs in reply.

A maiden T20 half-century for Chandrapaul Hemraj anchored the Warriors’ innings after Brandon King was bowled by Jason Holder in the second over.

The left-handed Guyanese smashed Jason Holder for back-to-back sixes that finished the powerplay at 31-1.

In addition to his six fours, the 26-year-old then brought up his half century by depositing an Ashley Nurse delivery into the Presidential Suite over long on for his third six. Hemraj shared in a 35-run stand with Shimron Hetmyer (09) who was unable to maintain his form after scoring 70 not out the previous night  and was out to a diving catch substitute fielder Hayden Walsh Jr.,  at point.

Skipper Shoaib Malik also suffered a soft dismissal, glancing Roshan Primus to the wicketkeeper as the Warriors reached 63-3 at the half-way stage.

The Strathavon-based Hemraj was joined by Marquee player, Nicholas Pooran, and the pair shared a 39-run partnership for the fourth wicket before the opener departed for 63 after pushing a knee-high full toss outside off stump to Nurse at cover.

However Pooran and Sherfane Rutherford teamed to rain sixes into all the stands.

Rutherford raced to 32 not out from 14 balls, blasting four sixes in the process.

The pair’s unbroken partnership of 78 from exactly five overs ensured Warriors reached the fourth highest score at the venue.

Pooran shifted gear as he moved from 25 runs off of 22 balls to finish unbeaten on 61 from 30 balls.

The left-handed batsman took advantage of seamer Primus flicking a delivery to square leg for a four and twice sweeping deliveries into the top tier of the Green Stand over mid-wicket for sixes.

Pooran also struck three  deliveries from  Raymon Reifer’s final over,  into the Grass Mound at mid-wicket and twice into the Red Stand over extra cover, bringing up his 11th half century.

In the chase, Warriors opted to open the bowling with Hemraj’s left-arm orthodox and it immediately worked as Alex Hales was bowled by the first delivery.

Tridents the lost Johnson Charles (19) and Leniko Boucher (16) to legspinner, Shadab Khan, ending the power-play on 44-3.

When Jason Holder was run out for four and Jean-Paul Dumminy had his stumps pegged back by Keemo Paul for 20, Tridents found solace in a spirited 25-ball 40 from Ashley Nurse that featured three fours and three sixes.

But Romario Shepherd removed both Nurse and Reifer with successive deliveries narrowly missing a hat-trick with a full delivery centimeters off the stump.

The 25-year-old seamer wrapped up the tail and signaled Warriors’ victory with the Zinger bails lighting up at the wicket of Sandeep Lamichhane and Mark Shepherd.
