The pregnant woman who was accused of dousing a People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) supporter with dirty water during a protest, yesterday had the charge against her dismissed.

The charge against Cassandra Amsterdam, of 48 High and Barrack streets, Kingston, George-town, alleged that on July 19th, 2019, at Barrack and High streets, Kingston, Georgetown, she assaulted Yanalla Dalrymple.

At a hearing yesterday before Magistrate Rondell Weaver, the charge against Amsterdam was dismissed after the court heard the complainant failed to ever make a court appearance.

It was the prosecutor’s case that on the day in question, Dalrymple was part of a peaceful protest on behalf of the PPP/C. The court was told that Amsterdam, upon hearing the noise, exited her house and shouted at the protesters. When they would not be quiet, she allegedly armed herself with a bucket containing dirty water and threw it on several persons.

During her first court appearance, however, Amsterdam told the court “My child was sleeping and they were making unnecessary noise in front my house, so I throw a cup of water I had in my hand but the water did not touch anybody.”
